April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July, started taking guitar and piano lessons at seven years old. The passion for creating songs was sparked. April's very first song was called Different, which she wrote when she was 12 years old. When she was 14, April spent much time writing and honed her music ability. The songwriting began alongside her father and her dad in NY and LA soon after. April also began incorporating additional relevant subjects into the"Take my Hand song for some acquaintances, including peer pressure issues and suicide among teens. Lockhart is a well-known lifestyle influencer as well as having partnerships with clean beauty brands Ilia and YSL, has cultivated her own following. As a woman born with no left hand, the woman has a significant part to play in herself. But it's not the only thing she has to tell. So, Lockhart's Instagram profile doesn't shy away from her disability, but it doesn't center around the issue as well. The message? It is important to remember that everyone has many faces, our identities are diverse and we are much greater than the bodies we wear. Lockhart speaks via video in Nashville. "I don't wish for it to dictate my existence. I'm not looking to only be recognized as an expert in disabilities. However, it doesn't affect my everyday living. I continue to do the things I normally would and I've adapted to my disability. It's an integral part of my life, so it is important to discuss the subject. Lockhart encourages us to keep striving to be self-accepting. She admits that she has had periods where she felt insecure about wearing certain clothing styles which displayed her arms. She is able to wear anything she'd like, and is proud to share photos of herself in these outfits. Self-love she said is a kind of journey. "I believe that you will ever be in that place," she said. The same is true for everybody, no matter what their level of insecurity. It is important to have people that know and appreciate you. They will be the ones to ask you: What do you think about?
